For many years now, the SONG and work of Daniel Higgs has been an unending source of awe, inspiration and joy for me. He currently has an exhibition up at the James Fuentes Gallery in NYC through July 25th 2012. I personally will do my best to make it up before the show comes down, if the photos of the work are any indication, the pieces may be some of his most powerful yet. Hope to see you there!

I dreamt a dream

It is dark, it must be night. I am watching a total eclipse of the sun from a far distance. The sun is being eclipsed by the earth. Gradually I watch it disappear and then return. After the end of the eclipse a small golden ball of light comes out of the sun. It begins to move towards me very rapidly, it arrives all around me, filling my ears with an unimaginably beautiful ringing sound, thousands upon thousands of tintinnabulations. The light enters my head through my ears, I am filled with golden light. I am aware that I am dreaming, I try to move, I am paralyzed. I wake up.

Thom DeVita portfolio!!

I just received a new portfolio from Thom DeVita, and I thought I'd share. In addition to being one of the most influential tattooers in the history of modern American tattooing, DeVita is perhaps the most prolific of living American folk artists. He works in series, using different techniques ranging from collage, rubbings, stencils, and dry brush. The result is an aesthetic that is powerful, playful, inviting and at the same time obscure and hard to decipher. Sri Yantra

The Sri Yantra is a beautiful and powerful mandala that I have had an affinity for, for a long time. It represents the interaction of male and female energies, or Shiva and Shakti and this interaction is the womb of the universe. It feels good to paint it, and I should have done it long ago.
